Around this time...

We’re two weeks into the school year and as the children become familiar with their new friends, exciting classrooms and teachers it’s starting to feel like home again.

It’s nerve-wracking to welcome 10, 12, sometimes 15 new personalities into the classroom and hope that everything falls into place. Almost every teacher I know has a perfectionist quality about them that is daunted by the idea of having a dozen little faces looking at them and saying the dreaded words; I’m bored!

Yet right around this time of year- about two weeks in, we step back and breathe a sigh of relief.  We look around the science room and see the children looking at fossils through the jumbo magnifying glasses, in the drama room a crew of mini-firefighters are putting out an imaginary fire, in the art studio someone is always swirling their brush around a canvas at lightening speed and it’s then that we realize we had nothing to worry about.

Now as wonderful as I’ve made this sound I want to guarantee you that if you ask your child what they did at school they might just say, 'nothing'  BUT  I can also promise that if you stay connected, visit us often and flip through the pages of their independent program plans you’ll see what’s really been going on!

So here we are, the first day of Autumn with a lotttt of school year ahead of us and it feels like we’re at the beginning of one heck of an adventure but it’s all good because this home is where our hearts are.
