Henry Ford - Kindergarten Oakville

Happy Monday everyone! All of us (you know, the Forest Grove crew) are hoping all of you (families and friends) had a spectacular weekend. To kick this week off with a jolt of happy I thought it would be a good time to talk about happy thoughts.

Some folks call this projection; others refer to it as affirmations. Frankly, it doesn’t matter what you call it, it all boils down to the same thing, positive thinking.

There is no denying that a good pep talk in the mirror can set the tone for the day. With the right words and frequency people allow the possibility of greatness to come walking on in, right past the welcome mat, and into their lives.  If you haven’t already tried this I strongly suggest it.

Well, this brings me to Jessica. After 11,000,000 views on YouTube I’m going to assume that some of the readers of this very blog have watched Jessica’s video, if you haven’t click HERE. Can you  imagine how fantastic her day was after starting it off like that?

So here’s the question, if in between breakfast and brushing we taught our children to take 30 seconds for their own daily affirmations how would it impact their day…week…month?

Is this something you'd be interested in introducing to your child? We'd love to know the results if you decide to give it a try.

Sparkle Soon - Kindergarten Oakville

Something happens to a city after a disaster. There is a cohesiveness that creeps in and sets a mood of resilience.  New York is no stranger to resilience; in fact it’s the one place that may define the word.

As the pictures continue to emerge and numbers continue to rise we want to send NYC some TLC.

It’s the least we can do, besides, that’s what neighbours are for.

Stay strong New York, you'll sparkle soon.

"If you want to become a real New Yorker, there’s only one rule: You have to believe New York is, has been, and always will be the greatest city on earth. The center of the universe."

Staying the Same.

Hiat Labib - Tuesday, October 30, 2012

It's always a treat to have a former parent or student pop in and give us an update about all the changes that have happened since their time at Forest Grove. Usually we expect change, welcome it even! However, every now and again we say good-bye to a student that we so dearly hope stays EXACTLY the SAME.

The first time I met Avery she ran into my classroom (filled with children much older than her, may I add) and started dumping my science experiment materials all over my uber tidy table. I looked up at Avery's mom and she said, "Good luck with this one, you'll need it".

I was immediately intrigued by my new fearless student and quite possibly the most aware parent I had come across in a while.

I have no intention of ever losing track of Avery, I'm sure I'll see her name in lights, on the news or quite possibly ruling the free world (today she serves as the inspiration for this simple blog post) but what I like to hear most about my crazy girl is not how she has changed, but rather for better or worse, how she has stayed the same.

High-fives to big personalities and brave moms...oh, and staying the same.

Makeover or Madness?

Hiat Labib - Thursday, October 25, 2012

Never has Minnie Mouse caused such a commotion, usually it's her significant other that's making headlines. It seems her new look hasn't been well received despite her new designer wardrobe and more sophisticated approach. As a teacher to young children I have a strong opinion on the topic but I'll keep mine tucked away. What we would really like to know is how you feel about Minnie's makeover?

Ms. Alicja has been up to some creative pastimes lately. I think this is proof that you can take Alicja out of Reggio Emilia but you can't take Reggio Emilia out of Alicja! Enjoy some snapshots that were captured this weekend in our own beautiful city.
